While visiting in Idaho, my daughter gave me a recipe, with a wild rice blend, she cooks for her busy family. The preparation time is 10-14 minutes, the cook time is approximately 50 min. the family is at 5,000 ft so lower elevation cook time will probably be less. This is not a scientific, carefully guarded research environment. No big company R & D lab.
THIS is a real ranch family always looking for an easy to prepare healthy dinner. Wild rice and wild rice blends are an important part of their diet. They use Ankeny Lakes and St. Maries wild rice and wild rice blends because of their versatility and convenience. Many of her dishes are done “on the fly”. This recipe makes 8 healthy servings
1# hamburger
2 cups Wild Rice Quinoa Blend, or plain wild rice
2 cans stewed tomatoes
2 cups chopped carrots and 2 cups chopped celery
4 cloves of garlic (more if you are one of those people, that there is never too much garlic)
Bay leaves (several)
2 quarts of water
We use a Lowerys or Johnnys seasoning salt
Salt and Pepper to taste
Brown hamburger, set aside
Chop everything up, add it to 2 quarts of water, add browned hamburger, hard simmer for 50 min or so.
You might add a side dish of cornbread. Wow Great meal!
